PART 1

FIRST THINGS FIRST...

There is no point spending thousands of dollars on accessories and mods for your fourby, if you can’t protect it from some low-life who reckons your gear would look better on their truck.

It’s pretty hard to get insurance nowadays if you don’t have an alarm system, or at least an immobilizer fitted. A lot of older vehicles are pre-immobilizer, so if you haven’t got one, get one fitted! Oscar was one of those vehicles and considering he has a targa roof, he was just waiting to be “borrowed”. However, the boys here at the office pointed out that the only reason he hadn’t been “borrowed” before was that he was simply too ugly, but after his transformation, we suspect he may attract a little bit of attention. So, the minute Oscar was collected from his previous owner, it was off to Cruise Control Specialists in Silverwater to get this sorted before any other work was done. Nigel recommended we go the whole hog and fit a good quality alarm system and we figured he was spot on.

The X-90 already had central locking fitted, but not the you-beaut remote kind. For cars without central locking, this can be fitted prior to fitting the alarm system giving keyless entry. If your vehicle already has keyless entry, all that is needed to give your fourby full protection is an alarm upgrade, turning your factory remote keys into a full alarm system with battery backup siren and all. So, who is Nigel?

Managing Director Nigel Apps has been in the automotive protection business for about 20 years, and has built his good reputation on his motto “Do it right the first time”. Cruise Control Specialists have been in business since 1993 and are well known in the automotive industry for installation of cruise control systems, alarms, immobilisers, vehicle tracking systems, parking sensors, reversing cameras and speed alerts.

Along with a well equipped fitting bay conveniently located in Silverwater, Cruise Control Specialists also offer a mobile fitting service covering the Sydney Metropolitan district. Quality work is the difference between your car being there when you get back or your cruise control functioning as it should – it’s a sobering thought that a dodgy installation has the potential to be lethal. Nigel has undergone rigorous training and is fully licenced to install cruise controls and alarms to the required Australian Standards.

Cruise Control Specialists used the A2A-6 from “Antitheft Car Alarms” in Gladesville. Now whilst it’s a brilliant alarm, it’s not normally wise to announce publicly which one you are using – hence there isn’t too many details on the installation as such. This is where the adage of “A good alarm system is only as good as the installer” comes in (as well as some nifty little tricks of the trade that if we disclosed we would have to kill you) and from watching the installation, Oscar won’t be going too far!

Stay tuned for our next section as Oscar’s cruise control is installed.
