Meet GU Bug from the forum and his tough GU Patrol. They don't come much tougher than this one.
Talking Dirty with GU BUG...
Name:
Joe Grech
Location:
Wodonga, VIC
What do you do for crust?
Carpenter
When did you join the A4WDM forum & why?
Joined October 05' after I'd heard of a few forum trips being run around Melbourne & it was a great opportunity to get out wheeling with people that like to actually GET OUT THERE...not just talk about it.
What do you drive & how long have you owned it?
I drive a 99 GU Patrol ute & have owned it for 6 months.
Modifications?
5 inch lift, 35' MTZ 's, Custom front tube bar, sliders, modified & shortened tray, Warn XP 6hp winch up front, T-Max winch in the rear, Snorkel, Piranha dual battery system, Icom UHF, Light force lights, Bosch compass lights, H/D trailling arms, Max-Air compressor with accessories, Engel fridge, Kincrome tool boxes, boosted turbo & advanced pump, few other goodies aswell!!!
Where do you like going bush?
I've recently moved Sth from Noosa & would rate Cruiser park & Glasshouse mountains as my favourites in QLD. Here in Vic High Country wins hands down!!!
Any members off this forum you usually go wheeling with?
From QLD I've been going wheeling with BundyMonkey, Twisty, Cracka, Boof, Brooksy & a couple of others I may have missed. In Vic I've been wheeling with Mudrhino, bushtuckerned, PJ Zook, Humpys & a couple of others?!?!
Tell us about that first 'oops' moment you had off road:
That would be when I nearly peeled my rear door off my GU wagon on a track @ Mt.Dissappointment here in Vic. Not much to tell really other than there was a dirty big tree root in a bad spot that claimed both drivers side doors, rear guard & flares....
What's next for the truck?
Garret rollerbearing turbo & front mount cooler.....more HP!!!!
Any mods made & since regretted & why?
Rock sliders. They were purchased with the truck & are woeful. Other than that, I'm happy with the way it's set up.
Have you done any extended trips in your fourbie, if so do you have any advice or experiences to share?
Haven't had the chance to do much touring in my latest GU though I had done most of the High Country, Otways, Dissa, Avoca & Robe (SA) in my GU wagon & the best advice I can give is go prepared & don't go alone. Make sure you have all the appropriate recovery gear & know how to use it SAFELY!!! There's so much of OZ to see so next time you think about heading off over seas', have a think about what Australia has to offer......You live in the best country in the world so GET OUT THERE & EXPLORE IT!!!!
