Default Wiso track from Lajamanu to Tennent Ck

I just completed the Wiso track from Lajamanu to Tennent Creek and plan to write a magazine article (hopefully 4wd monthly will be interested).

Two vehicles have used the track in the last two years (one didn't make it and had to be rescued) we made it in the trusty Rangie, though we did have one puncture and an unscheduled overnight stop due to a fuel pump failure.

Fuel pump repaired, we completed the 495k trip in which 295 kilometres is a wattle thicket that threatens to remove mirrors antennas, lights, and anything not bolted down.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to do this trip, as your vehicle's paint will never ever be the same again.

More soon

My understanding is that this track is just about only used by the Bureau of Meteorology inspectors (from Darwin) who try (but often don't make it) to get out there every six months to inspect a remote automatic rain guage.

YOu are correct, and last time they didn't make it. I was told they were rescued after running out of tyres. Their new Toyota arrived in Lajamanu minus mirrors and lights

The track is virtually a 295 kilometre long wattle thicket

PS....

Does anyone know the correct pronunciation of Wiso.

Is it WiZZO? like Wizz-o
or wIzo like wise-o

There was heaps to see!

There was tall wattle, short wattle, green wattle, burnt wattle, wattle that was knocked over, wattle that fell over of its own accord, wattle that hadn't been knocked over or fallen over, wattle that punctured my tyre, wattle that didn't puncture my tyre, wattle that scratched the shyte out of the car......too much to list really.
