4wd Action giveing D22 hard time
Dont get me wrong I love the mag's and the DVD's but I was not happy when i read the Buying uesd Navara in the latest mag the writer give's the D22 some good but a fair bit of bad some of the thing's mention I think are unreasonabal and I and other D22 owner's have never found to be a problum dont know whats going on but i know that my D22 3.0L thats rite with a ZD30 has been a top truck! A while back the mag gave the D22 a very good report with almost nothing negative to say?

leave it to the experts .
i haven't had any major dramas with my d22 but a lot of friends and colleagues had bought new hiluxes and most of them have had multiple problems.
you get some bad eggs with every model of vehicle and maybe its tainted the writers view. either that or we have 'reeeeeeeeeeeeally good' trucks??

I dont take notice of much in the mag, last copy I read they stated that the ZD30DDTI powered GU's came out in 1998.
Really nice facts, might wanna check with Nissan on that. First released in 2000.
Ever wondered how Toyota sell so many Landruisers ?
Its because the Troopy, 4 door Troopy, 200 Series, The ute, Prado and I am pretty sure one of the Rav 4 models had a Cruiser badge on it aswell.
6 models with the Landcruiser badge on them.
Dave.

In my opinion the D22 is to low.Recently on a trip to Walhalla we went along a river bed.The D22 (only a month old) hit a rock, actually we all bottomed out here and there,When we got out he could not go over 75kms.Took it to Nissan the next day and bent tail shaft. There quote was $2700 and nearly 4 weeks to source from Brisbane..
I know the new Toyotas are basically the same.I am not making this a Toyo/Niss thing it could happen to anyone.Just letting you guys know what happened thats all.
The 100 series slid into a tree $1000 damage and me i lost a screw outa my number plate lol
Cheers guys

This does not make it another Landcruiser model so technically you are wrong about there being 6 models of Landcruiser.
That "Cruiser" model is no different to when Toyota had the Tarago "Getaway" model etc...

Just to clarify. Does anyone have a D22 that has had an engine meltdown alah 'Patrol Style', let excessive dust in or any of the other issues the mag mentioned. I don't, and I have one and have a few friends that have them.

I don't mind a write up that sates all of the bad things about a vehicle, even if I own it. At least it allows me to keep an eye on things that I wasn't aware to be a problem.
BUT, I think the writer of this column is talking more about the ZD30 problems in the patrol (please correct me if I'm wrong)?
Is the boost compensator valve the "bell" shaped item that has a small hose coming in on one side and out the other? (appears to be in the middle of the picture in the mag). How can you tell if it is not working properly?
Cheers

Review no good
Did Cape York in my D22 and did not get any dust nor water in through the doors. I think the author must have not closed a door properly!!! And I feel ripped off because my ST-R mags are only 7 inch wide but the mag says they sould be 8 inch, get the facts right. Oh thats right, the mag is being writen by so-called experts who can't get facts right, can't drive properly, can't prepare a vehicle for a trip and can't perform a safe recovery (LOL when I watch the DVD's). Love the entertainment/humor factor of the mag but I think I will have to try their competion to find real motering journalism.
Cheers

was an option pack available on the first of the RAV4s...IIRC its main benefit off road was the addition of a centre diff lock....maybe because it only had half the cruiser's 4WD system, it only got half the name lol

Rav's are still sold as a CV or a cruiser, my missus has an 07 model. Nothing to do with the landcruiser name though. I dont beleive there is any way that the ravs would be included in the landcruisers stats. Could be right about the troopy, 200 etc though.
I didnt think the write up was too bad, I though they did give the ZD30 a bit of a hiding.

x2. I agree. Now I know. The article did have me more than a bit worried and when my better half had a look at the article, not knowing any better, questioned why I bought a ute with that rep.
Let's be honest - all things being equal - who would consider buying that ute after that article. To me it read STAY AWAY FROM THIS UTE. But that just might be me.
Have they done an article on buying a HiLux used yet? I've only had a sub for a year and I can't recall seeing one. If there is one I'd like to see how they wrote that one up.
As for the mag itself, being an English teacher by trade and a proof editor in previous life, I often cringe when I read the mag. But, and it's a big but, I don't read it for the English, I read it for the facts and for the simple point that I figure that it is a far cry ahead considering the competition. IF the articles provide wrong facts, or go with one-sided opinions, well people will simply not subscribe anymore.
It is ironic that my sub is running out this month - the month the mag canes the ute I spent my hard earned cash on. I guess it isn't a popularity contest but I wouldn't mind some reassurance that I made a good choice. It's not like I bought an Gremlin now is it?
Just my two cents worth....

i re-read the article again after reading all the posts and it just seems like filler material. apparently you can get a 5" lift for it. if you go to the snake racing website the first thing that used to pop up in massive writing was 5" lift for navara. a D40 dumbasses. they should do more in depth research. and your right big col if i had of read this prior to buying the nav i wouldn't of spent my money on one. the downside to this is someone looking to buy a perfectly good nav that one of us might be selling, they will think twice or have 'ammo' to push the price down. especially with the line about if its the same price as a hi-lux just keep walking.
my wife wondered why i stopped buying all the mags produced by them religiously.
