Default Nissan Terrano 2.4i - More Power?

Hi All -
I have just purchased a 1997 Terrano II 2.4 Petrol. Reason to go petrol was economy, and also financially things a bit tight, and didn't want ot have to pay diesel repair bills if something went wrong. We just needed a 4x4 to carry the kids around and shoot through the buch or up the beach now and then.
Question though - has anyone ever modified, heard of chips etc for these? I was thinking of maybe extractors first - then see what happens. It goes ok for what I want - but more power is always handy!
Anyway - let me know. Regards

Hi Dave - yes I have been researching exhaust systems, extractors etc this morning. I would like to know though how much difference this is going to make - I know manifold desing and exhaust design have come along way. I read once in a four cylinder mag abour pressure testing an exhaust by drilling holes in various parts of the system to see the presure diferences..... I had an ford escort 2L once that i put a 2.5 inch system and extrators ona dn about the onlt difference was noise... but also a mazda r100 12a whcih a new exhaust added massive amounts of horsepower...

Hi Dave - yes i believe it is a KA24E - i think this motor is fairly similar in nissans in AU so it shouldn't be too hard to find bits for.

Yeah mate.

The KA24E has been in Australia for a long time.

I use to have a U12 Pintara TRX and it ran the same motor, pretty strong motor. A set of extractors and a exhaust system on that thing made it really get up and go.

Check out www.antrx.com/forum for a chip. Dont tell em I sent you as I dont think to much of the administrator after a disagreement about diesel's. They will tell you the KA24E is the best thing since sliced bread.

Its a good motor but outdated, they just dont think so.

Noss the head guy on the forum does chip's, all KA24E's run rich from the factory. The chips fix it up.

For a snorkel you may need to install the TD27ETI airbox.

Dave.

Hi Dave -
Many thanks for the reply. Mite do the extractors (once i find one to do them), exhaust and snorkel and see how things go there. Only two variables to when they actually get done.....
1) Once I get car back - bought it from a dealership and picked it up last thursday - friday morning clutch slave stuffed up and has been in workshop since...
2) If i can somehow not let the wife notice as she wants a $1000 rug on the loungeroom!!

Many thanks again. If you hear any more info reagrding the topics we have discuused, please let me know.

Will do.

Look into D22 Navara's aswell for engine info. D22's run the KA24E/DE aswell.

Hi Dave -
The old Terrano went great over the weekend. Drove to Brissy and back from here on the Sunny Coast - went great. Put in a tank of premium to give it a good flush out.
One thing i noticed though is how much better it runs at night. I know cool air always makes vehicle run better - but the difference in the terrano is significant - so I think a snorkel will do wonders. As you were saying that these things run rich - yep i would say thats what it feels like. So will be looking to do a snorkel soon. A bloke from airtech I contacted says his were better thatn safari as they have a venturi type setup to increase air speed - your thoughts??

Have never used Safari snorkels. Have heard a couple of times that the Safari snorkel's are restrictive though. A couple of GQ owners have said anyway.

My D22 has a Airtec/Nissan snorkel and I am more then happy with it.

See if Nissan Australia sell them as they are cheaper then TJM for Airtech snorkels.

Nizzbits should back next week from his trip overseas so shoot him a email about snorkels.

nizzbits@hotmail.com his name is Gary. I have dealt with him for my Nissan parts and he is cheaper and way more reliable then my local parts guy. The local guy wont do anything without a vin number. Idiot.

D22 snorkel may fit, look into that aswell. Seen a few R50 Pathfinders running D22 snorkels.

Feel free to join Home aswell, couple of guys there running KA24E powered Navara's.

Good luck.

Dave.

Don't think airtec do a snorkel for the terrano II however I have seen some pics of an airtec for a '98 courier on a terrano II with 2.7TDi and looked like a pritty good fit the air box on the diesel needs a bit of moding though

Thanks Bricki,
yes after getting info from a few forums the consensus seems to be a snorkel from a 98 courier will do the trick.
A bloke from another forum is sending me some pics of his fitment.
As long as the shorkel enters the engine bay towards the front of the vehicle all will be fine as the battery is mounted at he back on the passeners side.
Cheers.

Hi, not sure i got this quiote thing right, but...
Does that u12 Pintara and your Terrano II have an oxy sensor in the exhaust?
And, what is the difference betwen a td27t, and td27eti?

Hi Kiwi - just traded the Terrano on a 02 Pajero DID auto - so lack of power problem applies no more!
Cheers!

Hey Kiwi, sorry mate just seen your quote as I haven't been on here for a while.

The U12 run's a oxygen sensor.

Not 100% sure on the Terrano though.

Dave.

the KA24E I got from a 99 Navara doesn't have an O2 sensor. Not sure why. Might be a truck thing and emissions rules
