Ok Guys my Lux should be ready to to this morning

I called in last night and the front diff was back in with new O ring ( yeah its not really a O ring it a square ring )

They were just fitting the rear diff centre for abouth the 6th time ,coz it was hitting the diff housing , they had to get in there and remove some metal with a grinder

The Air locker set up takes more room than the std centre.

I asked if ARB had supplied the wrong locker ,had Toyota changed the diff housing , didnt really get a good answer , they were going to talk to ARB this morning

Anyway I hope all is good now , we shall see

I will go bush over the weekend and give the lockers a work out , and see

Jacko

Ive Had Fr & Rr ARB Air Lockers In 3 Cars Now and have had lots of problems with them. They have allways let u down when u need them the most. Oil Leaks O rings and the most common wiring problems (Im sure they dont need so much messy wiring.) The inlaws just had front and rears fitted and the compressor has shit itself after 1 trip.(TOP GEAR ARB) This is why i now run mechanical lockers (Lockrite or Detroits they are strong and work when you need them) They may be noisy as everyone says but they WORK and are a lot cheaper about 1/2 the price of an air locker.PS drove a car with a TJM Pro Locker the other day, works well we'll see how long it lasts. Not as many crappy parts as an ARB one.

don't know why they are having trouble refitting the centre, grinding the housing? the diff lock fits inside the carrier, the crown wheel is in the same place, so someone is feeding you bull. Yes my rear diff lock leaks oil, but the front inner diff seal, and timing case leak more!!

Well I could see where they ground the metal away

G'day Lads - Soory to reopen old wounds with this thread - But I've had a gutful of my ARM air lockers and oil now as well.

My Front and Rear lockers were "serviced" by ARB 12 months ago (including new x-rings) But sure enough, the front lockers pours oil up the air line (runs down the inner gaurd and drips on ground!

Not only is it a smell / nusiance but it stuff's the compressor. The oil it ends up poring in and around it decreases the ability to hit the pressure required for the pressure swith to turn the compressor off.

The more 4WD'ing you do (as I am going around Oz right noow!) the more oil and more compressor cleans / pitson re-builds I need to do.

I'm at a loss - keep em (actually only front one that's an issue) or bin it??????

I've never had any issues with mine either. They sell thousands and thousands of these every year, all around the world, and lets be honest the few that have issues are more likely to be down to the installer, or damage caused by the installer.

If, like you've said the breathers are right, it has to be the install in my book.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Why would you think for a second its not a design fault? Do you sell them or something? Every few weeks there is a thread on this forum talking about the lockers pissing out oil ect.. Not just on the RD23, i've seen posts relating to all manner of vehicles.

Myself I would be pissed off if I coughed up 3k+ for 2 lockers and I was stuck smelling diff oil. I hate the smell of diff oil so much the risk of having them leak is to great, even if the odds of it happening are quite small.

For me, unacceptable. If it leaks in this many cases, it's a design fault. Is it really that hard to see?

Jacko: If I were in your position i'd be selling them on ebay. You would probably get enough to replace them with detroits front and rear then not worry about it ever again!

You might want to check up on the pro-lockers. I was looking into different lockers and found that the Pro-Locker may be being removed from sale awaiting a re-design because of some catastrophic failures.
It was only the Patrol lockers, and I'm not sure exactly what component was failing, but the result was a complete seizure of the diff internals, causing the wheels to lock, in some instances at speed.

i fitted mine myself last october and they have leaked the whole time. I have just accepted it and degrease the engine bay under the compressor when i clean the car. After reading this thread, well most of it, it seems to be a common thing and no amount of stuffing around seems to fix it.

$600-800 to replace the seals is outrageous, once the diff centre is out its a two second job job to replace the seals, bolt it in and fill it with oil. At worse is shouldnt take more than an hour or so per diff, depending on how hard it is to get the axles out to allow the centre out.
