Mrbishi's Challenged Challenger Project - I'm back! The mods continue
She started her life as a stock as a rock 99 Challenger, auto V6 Petrol.
Went on many a trip with her then started to get the itch. The boys said "lets take the boat up to Exmouth!" - no worries, might whack on a nudgee to mount some portable suns.
I said "OK!" and off we went for a fishing adventure (and got some good fish along the way!)

Thought "hey it'd be nice to chuck the swag up on the roof "- so I went out and added a roofrack, cage and custom canvas bag. Went out and grabbed a VHF marine antenna from a boat store as a sand flag (for a lot less than what people wanted for "proper" sand flags").
A mate with a surf then invited me out one day to go tackle the "powerline track" - I thought why not! After a very enjoyable day I came to the conclusion that baldish HT tires with not much lift was a bit limiting - after all I wanted to be able to tackle some of the harder obstacles!
No worries I said and went out and whacked on some 31" BFG ATs and removed that silly sidestep while I was at it.
Had a bit more fun out on the trails for a while but then was sick of bottoming out on a few things - time for the lift! A few hours down at West Coast Suspension had me sitting around 2-2.5" higher. I also read that disconnection my rear sway bar while on the trail would make a good difference in rear end flex!
It sure did!

Did you take the sway bar off or cut it in half. You'll need it back on for rego though

Thought that it would be nice to be more organised when camping so threw together a quick storage solution - still need to carpet it and add a few bits and peices but you get the idea. Can hold a 70lt icebox, big storage container and 2 x 20lt jerries on either side. Thats without even putting anything on top and strapping it down.

Just unbolted it on both sides - takes about 5 min on the trail head with a spanner and ratchet. Just connect it back up at the end of the trail on a level surface before hitting the black stuff.
Future plans to make up a quick disconnect system.
Cheers,
Jon

Yea I like them Lightforces - planning on adding another 4 x 170s to the roof
Ahh the numberplate thing doesn't matter - can't remember why it was blurred in the first pictures. Its changed now anyway after losing a front one in a water crossing the other weekend!
Cheers,
Jon

Thanks for that. There have been a few others that have developed sway bar disconnection devices, one with a air RAM as well, very cool, however, I think there was a liability issue to produce them as the over all handling on road was compromised so watch out there at registration time and all that. It sure helps though from the PICs. Getting the back one of the NM is a real pain though as it is forward of the rear diff.

Only have to unbolt one side of the swaybar to make it ineffective.

got around to carpetting the outside of the storage box - still deciding whether to carpet the inside or put rubber mat down.
I have plans this week to build another carpeted storage compartment where the tarp is in that picture to house a 50lt water bladder, with a pressure pump setup.
Test fit of some friends 33s tomorrow too!
Cheers,
Jon

Tiny bit more progress this morning - finsihed one of the side front panels before running out of carpet. You can now see where the 50lt bladder and pump is going to live. Need to get some more carpet and put a top on it.
Cheers,
Jon

Yeah, you lose a lot of on road stability, you'll probly make your passengers car sick, the vehicle handling will suffer, but articulation will increase, the off-road ability will improve, and you'll just luuurrrv not having wheels in the air all the time!!

A mate dropped around with his spare set of 33s at lunch today.
1 look at the and I thought - what have I got myself into!
Well the first one seemed to fit
Only very slight rubbing on 1 front side on the road - tho I'm sure offroad will be a whole different story.

Will maybe take off the standard flares and check out whats underneath and could fit bushrangers.. then time to see how I can reduce offroad rubbing.
Cheers,
Jon
