Default Troy's FJ45!

Hi All,

I have decided to pull my pride and joy off the road when she runs out of rego next month for a full rebuild. She is a 75 model, 2inch spring lift, 2inch body lift, 33' Cooper STT's on American Alloy 15x10 rims, fiberglass tilt front, fiberglass half doors and glass tailgate. I'm running a fairly worked 305 Chev, 60 thou over, Stage 3 cam, (kicks in about 4000rpm!) Edlebrock manifold and a Holley 500cfm Truck Avenger Carb. It goes like the clap in a hore house and not much stops it.
I have just started to build up a rear bar with 2 swing aways, one for the spare and other for jerry cans. You can check out my website: web.mac.com/troyraven and have a look at my pics and projects.
Im just running standard 4 speed and diffs, but I think I will change all that out for 80 series. I think I will need them to run the 35's I want! Will put some pics on here too when I can work out how! Im better on the tools than the computer sorry!

Here are all the shots before and during. Hopoing to get it finished in the next few days. I'm having all sorts of trouble finding a suitabel latch to hold the swing aways closed. Might have to fabricate my own. I have tried to buy just the latch off ARB, OME etc but no one wants to sell them... Does anyone know of a suitable, heavy duty latch?

Cheers, Troy

G'day PJ

I really havent been crawling rocks with her. Im more into the mud and sand. I have had it out at Ormoeu in QLD when I lived up there and did a few of the rocky hills with ease. The boys had me go down a really rocky track that none of them could go down let alone come up. I made it down and back with ease so I guess if I tried a bit harder tracks she should handle it quite well. She has heaps of grunt down low and there is no weight so I haven't had any probs yet.

Hi Guys,

Hoping to get the rear bar finished today. Yesterday I modified the arm as I wasn't happy were the wheel sat. Finishing off the jerry can holder arm on the other side and bolting up to the chassis for a final fit. Then the last thing to do is put the hole in and weld in socket for towbar tounge. Then just paint. Will post more pics tonight.

Well I had a fair bit of work to do to my chassis rails today so didn't get as far as I liked. I now have the bracket fully welded in, the second stub welded in, and all the bolt holes drilled and spacer plates welded in. I'm hoping to get a few more hours on it tomorrow and get the towbar welded in. I have a throat I cut from an old hayman reese bar which I have cleaned up and ready to fit. I still have to decide on a colour. My chassis will be bright orange when the rebnuild takes place in a few months but I think the bar would look poxy in orange. I would love to send it to be chromed but just too much work to get it ready and smooth.
I searched high and low this week to buy a decent cam over latch for the swingaways but no avail. I think I will have to build it too. Will endevour to get more pics up soon. WATCH THIS SPACE! ;D ;D ;D

I have finished the Spare Wheel Swingaway arm except for the plate that the wheel bolts to. I am making a better one. Towbar is now welded in and bolt holes drilled in bar and chassis. I used 1/2" high tensile bolts with nylock nuts. Second stub machined and welded in for second arm as well. Here are some more Pics. Next is to make the brackets to hold the taillights in place.

You will want to put a triangle brace under the last bend to the wheel stud plate there. Over 20 kgs of tyre weight with leverage will cuase some greif otherwise.
You might what to take a look at a fellow posters wheel carrier project too where he covers the catch he used.
http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/i...threadid=16073

"This picture show the catches I am using to keep the carriers in their places, I picked them up from Specialised Wholsalers in Newcastle for $35.00 each."

G'day Mate,
Thanks for the tip but if you have a look at my pic directly above your post there is alrealy a gusset in the last bend before the wheel stud plate. As for the lock thanks for the link and the pic for an idea on what you will use. I looked at heaps of these type of locks but they only pull back into themselves not at 90 deg. I would prefer & think better a cam over that pulls at 90deg so the arm gets pulled tight against the rubber stop in the saddle. Eg see this pic, therefore I will make my own from scratch.

Found what you are looking for but not sure if you can get them here or not?

Here are the specs.

From this site here: http://www.mcmaster.com/
Just put the model number 5135A35 into the search box and it shows a number of different setups.
