4WD Action 120 ON SALE NOW This month’s Australian 4WD Action rips into some home grown custom modifications, as we feature our very own technical writer Nathan Campbell-Cowie’s tricked out 80 Series. Nathan has spent a lot of his own time customizing almost all of his modifications, and has used a wallet friendly DIY method for turning his 80 Series LandCruiser into one of the most modified and tough off-road weapons out there. This month we put two workmate utes to the test, with the iconic Australian LandCruiser V8 ute shaping up against the common rail Nissan Patrol. Shaun shows us some first aid tips he picked up from a training day with St John Ambulance, and what you’ll need in the essential 4WD first aid kit. Bryan teaches us some valuable tips to getting out of that thick, sticky and grimy mud hole, and Brendan Batty takes a look at a shorty GQ from Victoria packed full of custom accessories. We catch up with Gordon, a research scientist from Western Australia with one of the best equipped and standout Disco 3’s in Australia. Back in 2005, 4WD Action crowned the LandRover Discovery 3 as the Best 4WD of 2005, and since then we haven’t found a more capable D3 to take on the tough Australian Outback – until we met Gordon. If you want to know more about Gordon’s modifications, and how you can set up your Disco 3 to be an all round tourer and strong competitor in 4WD events, check out Issue 120 of Australian 4WD Action for Gordon’s contact details. For us 4WDers, holiday time means packing the 4WD, hitching up the camper trailer and heading away from civilisation. Instead of theme parks and five-star hotels, we look for national parks and million-star skies. And that’s exactly where Roothy’s gone this month! Join him on a tour of Outback Queensland – his home and the place that Milo’s made for. Once you’re done dreaming about where to go, check out three awesome 4WDs that will take you there! First up, we’ve got a highly modified Disco’ 3 from WA that proves pedigree trucks don’t mind getting dirty. Then there’s Russell Sturzaker’s Outback-proven Mitsubishi Pajero that's been customised to tackle every track out there. And for those of you who like taking the harder road, we check out an awesome 80 Series with all the fruit. Heading away but have nowhere to store your gear? We take an in-depth look at roof-racks and how to make sure your gear stays on the top of your truck. We revisit the Tassie trip from last year, as Glenn’s reunited with the ill-fated Prado and shown what had to be replaced. And while we’re at it, we show you how to save money by installing your own diff breathers. And of course, we’ve got Roothy’s infamous cooking to get your mouth watering – not one, but two recipes this time! Australian 4WD Action – it’s the show that would rather be off-road right now. |
